Avipsa Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Public Policy situated in the School of Social Ecology at UC Irvine. She leads the STaNCe lab and is affiliated with the Institute of Transportation Studies and the Center for Population, Inequality and Policy at UC Irvine. She completed her PhD in Geography from Arizona State University and holds an MSc in Geoinformatics from the University of Muenster and BSc in Computer Science from University of Calcutta, India.

STaNCe lab is interested in studying the complex nature of urban systems using data-driven and theoretical approaches. The lab is led by Avipsa Roy and her students have engaged in research on developing computational methods to improve fairness in AI, mapping changes in transportation patterns and understanding accessibility issues in cities and urban networks.

The primary research themes in STaNCe lab are: 1) mapping movement patterns across space and time from large datasets from spatial data science approaches, 2) developing methodological frameworks for urban analytics, and 3) exploring urban accessibility issues using network theory.
